For fleet owners, lessors & lenders · Enphase portfolios

The independent verifier for inherited solar guarantees

You hold production guarantees written by installers who may no longer be answering the phone. OwlWatt reconciles actual production against each site's own contract terms and the weather, independently, and hands you a defensible number.

No installer or O&M vendor relationships. Fixed fee, fixed scope. Same pinned methodology used for homeowners and fleets.

Municipal and public-sector fleets follow the same logic with a public-records twist; see our page for cities, counties and school boards if that is your fleet.

What we answer

Fleet owners, lessors and lenders who acquired or inherited a residential solar portfolio ask one question first: what is the reserve number. OwlWatt reads each system's actual production from its own monitoring platform and compares it, site by site, against the guarantee or estimate written into that site's contract and a weather-normalized expected value. The result is a status per site (compliant, at risk, in breach, or data gap) and a dollar exposure computed from the contract's own remedy formula, not a formula we invented.

A reserve set on installer estimates is a reserve set on the number the installer wanted to sell. Reconciling actual production against each contract's own remedy formula puts the reserve on measurement instead.

Per-site reconciliation

Actual kWh vs. the contractual guarantee vs. weather-normalized expected production, with a status flag and a dollar exposure per site.

Cohort extrapolation

Aggregate exposure across the sample, stratified by state, equipment and vintage, extrapolated to the full fleet with confidence intervals.

An O&M yardstick

Vendors diagnose faults; they don't reconcile against your contract terms or your weather clause. You can't audit your vendor with your vendor's data. This is the independent baseline.

Published, version-stamped methodology

Reproducible from your own Enlighten data. Pick 25 sites and we walk any discrepancy with you.

Sized as a worked example

Illustrative, stated assumptions Run an example: on a 20,000-system portfolio at roughly 10,000 kWh/yr per system and $0.15–0.30/kWh, if 15% of systems run 10% short of their guarantee, that is $450–900K/yr of guarantee exposure, compounding over the remaining contract term.
Illustrative, stated assumptions Underperformance is the leading indicator of non-payment. On a 20,000-system lease book, every 1% of leases kept current is worth roughly $350K/yr in retained lease revenue. The report maps which underperformers are delinquent or about to be, so remediation dollars go where they retain revenue.

Worked examples with stated assumptions, not a conclusion about any specific fleet. The snapshot tells you your own numbers.

The snapshot: 30 days, 500 systems

  1. Scope and access

You point us at 500 systems: site ID, address, PTO date, monitoring platform, contract ID. You create and hold your own Enphase API developer app; OwlWatt operates as your technical contractor on your credentials under the Enphase API License Agreement. We never receive your Enlighten login.

  2. Reconciliation

Each site's actual production is compared against its contract's stated guarantee and a weather-normalized expected value. Contract terms are extracted with clause-and-page provenance so the number traces back to your own document.

  3. The deliverable

A per-site reconciliation for the 500 with a status flag and dollar exposure; a cohort report extrapolated to the full fleet with confidence intervals and a ranked top-50 remediation list; a methodology appendix; and a one-hour readout.

The equipment kept measuring after the company that sold it stopped answering the phone. The production record is intact in Enlighten; nobody has reconciled it against the contract since the installer folded. Inherited systems come with promises whose value nobody has measured. Measured, they are a number you can reserve against, price, or defend.

Four conditions we hold on ourselves

Data source, today

Enphase is the only live data source. String-inverter platforms including SolarEdge are on our roadmap and not live; we would rather say that plainly than sell you an engagement we cannot run on your fleet's actual equipment mix. The equipment's own monitoring record, corroborated against your fleet's Enlighten Manager view, is the source of record; per-site forensic hardware is available for individually contested sites but is not part of the standard fleet engagement.

Pricing

Fixed fee. Scoped on a call, not published here.

The 500-system exposure snapshot is priced and scoped after a short conversation about your data access and contract set. Fixed fee, quoted before any work starts. Recurring verification and annual portfolio certification are available after a first snapshot, quoted the same way.

Honest limits

Questions fleet owners ask first

Isn't this what our O&M vendor already does?

Vendors diagnose faults, not contract compliance. You can't audit your vendor with your vendor's data. OwlWatt is the independent yardstick.

What data do you need from us?

A site list, read-only fleet-level Enphase API access on an app you create and own, and the lease/PPA documents for the sample, plus an NDA and DPA. Billing status is optional.

Who holds the Enphase API credentials?

You do. You create and hold your own developer app; OwlWatt operates as your technical contractor on your credentials. We never receive your Enlighten login.

Do our lessees find out about this?

Every lessee in scope gets OwlWatt's own read-only view of their site's number, delivered directly by OwlWatt, never branded or edited by you. That symmetry is what makes the report credible.

Is this a legal opinion on our exposure?

No. We measure and document; whether a gap is a breach is a question for your counsel. OwlWatt provides information and documentation, not legal advice.

OwlWatt measures and documents production against contract terms. It does not determine breach, recover money, or provide legal advice.
