How it works
Three steps. Then we do the rest.
OwlWatt connects to your system, runs the model, and alerts you — no spreadsheets required.
Upload your contract
Share your solar agreement. OwlWatt extracts every production guarantee, measurement period, degradation clause, and exclusion — and explains them in plain English.
Connect your system
Link your Enphase account, or plug in OwlWatt Iris — our independent hardware collector. Iris captures per-panel data at 5-second resolution, even when your installer's cloud is unavailable.
We measure. You'll know.
OwlWatt compares your measured production to the pvlib PVWatts model every day. If your system falls short, you get an alert with the data and a ready-to-send claim report.
What OwlWatt does
The independent check your installer doesn't provide.
Your installer's app shows production. OwlWatt shows whether that production meets what your contract requires — two different questions.
Contract analysis
Upload your solar agreement. OwlWatt extracts the guarantee terms and explains exactly what your installer promised and when they're obligated to deliver it.
Independent production measurement
OwlWatt reads your inverter data directly and cross-checks it against a physics-based expected-production model. Your installer's numbers are one input — not the answer.
Shortfall documentation
When measured production falls below your guarantee, OwlWatt calculates the gap in kWh and dollars, then produces a claim report citing the exact contract clauses and model parameters.
Silent failure detection
With the optional OwlWatt Iris collector feeding it panel-level data, OwlWatt catches a microinverter that stops producing — even when it looks fine in aggregate — before months of lost energy add up.
Why it matters
The cost of not knowing.
*Based on a 12 kW system producing 15–20% below guarantee at MA average electricity rates ($0.33/kWh). Actual shortfall value depends on system size, guarantee terms, and local rates.
Why now
Net billing changed the math.
Under old 1:1 net metering, every kilowatt-hour you exported earned a full retail credit — so a system quietly producing under its guarantee still blended into your bill. Net billing (NEM 3.0 in California, and spreading to other states) cut what you’re paid for exported power, and your savings now hinge on how much your system actually produces. An under-producing array costs real money under these rules — and it leaves owners asking whether a smaller check is the new rate or a system falling short. OwlWatt separates the two: it measures your actual production against your guarantee, so you know which one you’re looking at. How NEM 3.0 affects your solar savings →
