Is it worth $9.99 to find out?
That's the question you're sitting with, so do the arithmetic with your own numbers rather than ours. Take the annual production your contract or proposal promised, then take the rate off your latest electric bill. The example below uses a system expected to make 10,000 kWh in a year at $0.30/kWh. It's an illustration, not a typical result, and yours will be different.
| Shortfall | Lost kWh/yr | Lost $/yr at $0.30 |
|---|---|---|
| 5% | 500 | $150 |
| 10% | 1,000 | $300 |
| 15% | 1,500 | $450 |
| 20% | 2,000 | $600 |
Most production guarantees are assessed per contract year, so a gap like this tends to repeat every year it goes unmeasured instead of costing you once. Even the 5% row, $150 a year, is more than the $87.89 annual subscription. At 10% it's roughly three and a half times what OwlWatt costs.
Straight with you about what this buys: OwlWatt doesn't recover that money. We measure the gap and document it, with the model, the parameters and the data window behind the number. Whether a claim on your guarantee succeeds depends on what your contract says and, if it goes that far, on an attorney in your state. And the honest answer may be that your system is doing fine and there's no meaningful gap at all. That's worth something too, and it's the answer you can't get today.
Frequently asked
Is there really a free trial?
Yes, 30 days. Explore your dashboard and see whether a shortfall appears. The exact figures, your claim report, and the production guarantee claim letter unlock when you subscribe. You don't need a credit card to start; one is required only when you convert to a paid plan at the end of the trial.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Cancel from the dashboard at any point. You keep access until the end of the current billing period. We keep your production history for 90 days after you cancel in case you change your mind, then delete it permanently.
Are there any hidden fees or upsells?
No. The subscription is our only revenue. We don't take commissions from solar installers, equipment vendors, or anyone else in the solar industry. That independence is why an OwlWatt production guarantee letter is worth anything to you in the first place.
Do I need to buy hardware?
Optional. OwlWatt works in cloud-only mode against your existing Enphase Enlighten account via OAuth. For 5-second resolution and offline resilience, we ship the OwlWatt Iris collector, see how Iris fits into the architecture. Same subscription price either way; the hardware is a one-time cost. The Founder Lifetime offer has a cloud-only tier ($399) and a +Iris tier ($499) that includes an owned OwlWatt Iris (not loaned) at checkout, see the Founder Lifetime terms for details.
What if my installer disputes the OwlWatt report?
Our reports cite the exact model (pvlib's PVWatts implementation), the exact parameters used (your system's DC nameplate capacity, tilt, azimuth, install date), and the exact data window. The full methodology is documented at /methodology. An installer disputing OwlWatt's math is disputing PVWatts itself, the model NREL publishes and the industry uses for system design. If a dispute escalates, a consumer protection attorney in your state can use our documentation as evidence.
Does OwlWatt work with my system?
Today: Enphase (any IQ-series microinverter system, IQ Gateway required). String inverters from SolarEdge, SMA, Fronius, and others are on the roadmap. SolarEdge owners: support is coming soon and in active development, join the SolarEdge early-access program to help us build and test it, in exchange for 2 years of OwlWatt free. If you're unsure, email [email protected] with your system specs before signing up.
What if I sell my house?
Your OwlWatt account and historical data are transferable to the new homeowner if they want to continue the subscription. Otherwise, the account closes and the data is deleted on the standard 90-day schedule.
