Enphase Warranty Explained: 25 Years on What, Exactly?

Enphase advertises a 25-year microinverter warranty, and it is genuinely one of the strongest in residential solar. It is also narrower than it first appears, in a specific way that matters: it promises your hardware will work. It does not promise your system will produce the electricity you were sold.

What the Enphase Warranty Actually Covers

Enphase warrants that a covered product will be free from defects in materials and workmanship, and that if one fails within the term they will repair it or send a replacement. The headline terms, current as of 2026:

Terms vary by product, region and purchase date. The document that governs your system is the one tied to your own serial numbers, not the marketing page, and it is worth locating before you need it rather than after.

The Three Things It Does Not Cover

None of these are hidden. They are simply not what anyone reads when a proposal says "25-year warranty."

1. Labor, in most cases

The standard limited warranty covers the replacement unit. It does not cover the technician who climbs on your roof to install it. A microinverter that fails in year twelve may well be free; the truck roll to swap it is not. That gap is precisely what Enphase Care and your installer's workmanship warranty exist to fill, and it is the most common unpleasant surprise in a warranty claim.

2. Lost production while you wait

A dead microinverter is a panel producing nothing. The warranty replaces the part; it does not compensate you for the kilowatt-hours that panel failed to generate between the failure and the repair. On a 30-panel system a single dead unit is a small monthly loss that is easy to miss and never refunded.

3. Whether your system meets its production estimate

This is the important one, and it is a category difference rather than a fine-print exclusion. Every Enphase microinverter on your roof can be operating exactly to specification while your system produces materially less than the proposal promised — because output depends on orientation, shading, soiling, the design itself and how many panels actually got installed, none of which are the microinverter's job.

A hardware warranty asks "did this part break?" A production guarantee asks "did the system deliver the energy we said it would?" Those are different questions with different answers, and only the second one comes with a remedy measured in kilowatt-hours.

Why "25 Years" Feels Like More Protection Than It Is

The number does real work in a sales conversation. It sits next to a 25-year production projection in the same proposal, and the two blur together into a single impression: twenty-five years of assurance. They are not the same promise, and only one of them is enforceable against your output.

Consider the failure mode this leaves open. Your system underproduces by 10% from the day it is commissioned — through a design assumption, a shading condition nobody surveyed, or panels facing a direction the proposal did not model. No component ever fails. The Enphase app shows green. Every microinverter is comfortably inside its 25-year warranty, working exactly as designed. And you receive nothing, because nothing broke.

On a 10 kW system quoted at 12,000 kWh a year, a 10% gap is 1,200 kWh annually. At a $0.31/kWh net-metering credit that is roughly $372 a year, or about $9,300 across the warranty's own 25-year term. That is a worked example, not a claim about your system. The point is the shape of the risk: the uncovered failure can be larger than every covered one combined, and it never triggers a claim because it never looks like a fault.

How to File an Enphase Warranty Claim

  1. Go through your installer first. Enphase's process generally expects the installer of record to open the case. If they are responsive, this is much the fastest path.
  2. If the installer is gone or unresponsive, contact Enphase support directly with your system ID, the affected serial numbers, and the date the fault appeared. See what to do when your installer has gone under.
  3. Record the outage window. Note when the unit stopped reporting and when it was restored. Enphase Care explicitly excludes lost output, so if you hold a production guarantee, that window is evidence for a separate claim under a different document.
  4. Keep your own production record. The platform reporting the fault is run by the manufacturer whose part failed. That is not an accusation, it is simply the structure — and it is why an independent read of your Enphase data is worth having before you need it.

Warranty, Service Plan, Production Guarantee: Which Is Which

Three different documents, routinely conflated:

Check the gap the warranty leaves, in about a minute. Our free production estimator models what a system of your size, orientation and age should generate at your ZIP code, from five years of measured local irradiance rather than a sales projection. No signup and no email required to see the number. Compare it to the annual total in your Enlighten app. If they are close, your 25-year warranty is covering the risk that is left. If they are not, the difference is the thing no warranty pays for — and it may already fall under a guarantee you have never claimed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the Enphase warranty?

IQ7 and IQ8 microinverters carry a 25-year limited warranty in the US. IQ Batteries are 10 years or a stated throughput, whichever comes first, and the IQ Gateway is commonly 5 years. Terms vary by product, region and purchase date, so check the warranty document tied to your own serial numbers.

Does the Enphase warranty cover labor?

Not by default. The standard limited warranty covers the replacement unit, not the cost of the visit to install it. Labor is what Enphase Care and your installer's workmanship warranty are for, and it is the most common surprise in a claim.

Does the Enphase warranty guarantee how much electricity I produce?

No. It is a hardware warranty: it promises the microinverter will function, not that your system will reach any particular annual kWh figure. A production guarantee is a separate promise from your installer, and it is the only one of the two that pays for lost output.

Is the Enphase warranty transferable if I sell my house?

Enphase microinverter warranties generally transfer with the equipment, since the warranty attaches to the hardware. Your installer's workmanship warranty and any production guarantee are contractual and may not transfer automatically. Read those two before a sale.

What voids an Enphase warranty?

Commonly: unauthorized modification or repair, installation that did not follow Enphase specifications, and external events such as lightning, flood or vandalism. Normal degradation and ordinary operation do not void it.
