OwlTesla has an official developer API
Tesla publishes the Fleet API for developers. Its energy endpoints include daily energy history, including solar production, available when the owner authorizes an application. An earlier version of one of our guides said Tesla has no open API for third-party monitoring. That was wrong, and it has been corrected.
What Tesla support would look like
- System-level only. Daily production for the whole system. There is no per-panel data.
- No local collector. Tesla offers no supported local API for its gateway, so the OwlWatt Iris would not apply.
- Same guarantee math. Daily history, weather-modelled expected production, performance ratio and shortfall calculation, with Tesla's own figure as the claim-of-record.
Before we build it, we are reviewing Tesla's developer terms, which set conditions on how third parties may use and share the data. We will not launch until we are sure a paid monitoring and claim-report service fits them. There is no launch date.
Tesla-installed systems that use Enphase or SolarEdge
Many Tesla-installed systems use Enphase or SolarEdge inverters. Support follows the inverter, so those systems connect today. Check your inverter brand on the equipment list in your contract or in your monitoring app.
Why we are planning it
Tesla is one of the three largest US residential inverter brands. Wood Mackenzie's 2025 US residential inverter shares were Enphase 31.7%, SolarEdge 31.3% and Tesla 29.6% (source: Wood Mackenzie, March 2026). Tesla owners face the same question as anyone else: is the system producing what the contract says it should.
